To create a work of art is emotionally and spiritually challenging in the best ways. An artist grows not so much from catharsis but through the demands of art, beauty, form, and narrative. Such demands push the imagination outside ordinary and conventional boundaries and assumptions, providing support for a journey into uncharted territories of the soul.

In this sense the process of creating art is also a path. In this workshop we will work with the way that the fictions of art, whether as image, story, reverie, fantasy or poetry reveal deeper truths; that pursuing a seemingly irrelevant or insignificant fascination will open your imagination to new possibilities and perspectives; and that making beauty, for instance, listening to and following the music of words, can bring you well beyond what you consciously “know.” In this workshop, participants will be offered examples from literature and art as a means of exploring and illustrating this process. Additionally, participants will be given ways to explore and experience this transformational process directly.
