When you know a thing, to hold that you know it; and when you do not know a thing, to allow that you do not know it — this is knowledge.

Both the Monthly and Distance Learning Formats provide adult learners, who have significant commitments to family and/or employment, with the opportunity to complete their graduate coursework.

Monthly Format Overview
Students who choose the Monthly Format meet in residence for one weekend (Friday through Sunday) per month for nine months during the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. Additionally, students meet for one week during the Summer quarter.

Academic Calendar
The Institute calendar is based on the quarter system. Three hundred classroom hours (30 quarter units) are completed each academic year. Courses are designed to be taken in sequence, within the cohort-based, transformative learning community model.

Residential Plan
In the Monthly Format, all classes are held in residence. The Monthly Format’s residential plan, where meals and lodging are provided, offers the following to students:

  • The opportunity to sustain one’s focus on learning and developing relationships within the learning community, rather than on meal preparation and commuting.

  • The opportunity to receive the support and nurturance necessary for the effective development and deepening of a transformative learning community.

  • The opportunity for retreat from the pressures of day-to-day professional and family responsibilities.
